| Goal | The goal is to expand Warfield Elementary School’s Serious about Series reading program. At Warfield we strive to get students hooked on reading by providing them with a variety of series books. Our goal of this project is to provide our students on kindergarten and first grade reading levels with high interest series books. |
| Description | When a child finds a book they love, they will continue reading if they find another book that is similar to the style of writing, humor or information. Warfield has series books all over the campus. Our second graders have been traveling from classroom to classroom trying to read as many series as they can. Students read approximately 10 books from a series with a staff member on campus and then move to the next series with another staff member. Students choose which series interest them and can read anything that will get them hooked! Our Kindergarten and 1st grade students have caught wind and are eager to join in. More books that are on kindergarten and first grade interest levels will help these students join in. |
| Benefits | Series books in the classroom are proven to develop a love of reading. These books will help students develop their reading heart as well as reading skills and strategies. Students will benefit by having access to books on a daily basis that they love and becoming avid readers. Fluency and accuracy rates have sky rocked in our school with the second graders using this program this year, and we fully expect to see the same with our kindergarten and first grade students. |
