#classroombookadaychallenge

Date 06/14/2018
Teacher Brouillet, Sarah
School Pinewood Elementary
Grade 5th Grade
Subject Reading
Goal

The goal is to further instill the love of learning in my students by reading aloud a picture book every day of the school year.

Description

Students will be exposed to a variety of genres, characters, settings, and events through numerous picture books. All students will participate in the daily 5- 10 minute read aloud and follow- up discussion. A copy of each book cover will be displayed in the the classroom, in the order we read them, each day as a way to track it visually.

Benefits

Picture books representing characters of multiple cultural backgrounds and living situations will enable students to see themselves in the books we read. Historical fiction picture books will help students learn about a variety of people, times, and places. Students will learn empathy as they read about a variety of characters encountering challenges. A reading community will be developed as we share in these books and participate in follow- up discussions. These picture books will also enable the students to practice listening comprehension skills as well as reinforce reading skills and strategies that are being learned in class.
