| Description | Our 5th grade class has learned a variety of mindfulness techniques during our morning meetings, and these students are ready to venture out and teach these strategies to other classes. Breathe Like a Bear is a guided meditation book that is written and illustrated specifically for elementary students. The chime is used during a mindfulness exercise in which participants must focus their attention entirely on the sound produced until it can no longer be heard. The chime will also signal the end of a meditation. Music teachers use Hoberman Spheres for breathing exercises, so it is fitting that this tool is used to teach mindfulness breathing as well. |
| Benefits | Research has shown that practicing mindfulness increases attention, strengthens compassion, and decreases stress and anxiety. All teachers at our school will be able to sign up for times that our student mindfulness instructors will be able to stop by and lead a mindfulness exercise for their classes. |
