Goal | My goal is to create a few brain break stations for my intensive reading students to use when they become frustrated or need a break from the academic rigor that is so difficult for them . |
Description | My vision is to purchase a few low cost coffee tables and pillows to create brain break stations. I will use items I already have such as scrabble, puzzles, word games, etc to create the stations - I just need help with the tables. I found a good option at IKEA for $30/each. Would like to purchase 3 and use the remainder of the money for pillows. |
Benefits | My students are traditionally low performing in the area of reading and language arts. They become easily frustrated and will give up when the work is particularly challenging for them. Research has shown that brain breaks can help students to build the perseverance and stamina they lack by offering them a short break before they get to the point of giving up. In addition, it helps to strengthen social-emotional growth as they develop skills such as cooperation, responsibility and self-control. These stations can also be used as a reward for on-task behavior and work completion (which are two big issues in middle school)! |
