For the Love of Reading Book Vending Machines

These machines will not be filled with snacks or sodas, but with food for thought - BOOKS!

School literacy teams will build this opportunity into their school reading plan and identify a variety of ways for students to earn gold tokens.  These tokens will be used by students to select a book of their choice from the machine.  These books will become part of the students' home library collection and build a print-rich home environment which was a need that was magnified by the closure of schools and public libraries due to COVID-19.

Studies show when children have books in their homes, they increase their reading proficiency and level of educational attainment.

Program Goals:
  • Increase students enthusiasm and engagement in reading for pleasure
  • Increase student access to reading materials by building home libraries
  • Increase student reading proficiency
Participating schools include:
  • JD Parker School of Science, Math & Technology
  • Pinewood Elementary School
  • Port Salerno Elementary School
  • Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School
  • Murray Middle School
Additional machines will be purchased as funding allows until all schools who would like to participate are included.

Machines are on order for the following schools:
  • Hobe Sound Elementary School
  • SeaWind Elementary School
  • Warfield Elementary School
  • Indiantown Middle School
  • Bessey Creek Elementary School

Program Sponsorship

Your generous support will help us keep the vending machines filled with high-interest titles throughout the school year and beyond.  Students will also be able to earn tokens over the summer months and have access to redeem their tokens for books during this time.  This will encourage students to keep reading even when they are not "in-school."
