Goal

To increase student independent reading with providing culturally relevant young adult novels in ELA classrooms for all students to borrow and read.
Description

The funds generated from this project would go to purchasing more independent reading novels for ELA classrooms. At SMS we are try to build a culture of reading for enjoyment. To increase the amount of reading a student completes he/she needs access to more culturally relevant young adult authors in his/her ELA classroom.
Benefits

Research indicates that students that read independently at the secondary level are more successful in school.
