These machines are not filled with snacks or sodas, but with food for thought - BOOKS!In collaboration with a variety of stakeholders, the EFMC has designed this opportunity for school literacy teams and teachers to encourage reading and reward students for good reading habits. For the 2026-27 school year, the Education Foundation is also hosting a variety of reading challenge opportunities to promote reading and friendly competition. Every token earned allows the students to select a book of their choice from the machine. These books become part of the students' home library collection and build a print-rich home environment.
Studies show when children have books in their homes, they increase their reading proficiency and level of educational attainment.
Program Goals:
- Increase students enthusiasm and engagement in reading for pleasure
- Increase student access to reading materials by building home libraries
- Increase the number of students reaching designated reading goals
- Increase student reading proficiency
The EFMC has a book vending machine at all traditional elementary, middle and high schools, as well as The Hope Center for Autism!
We are committed to keeping these machines stocked with 2,500 books per year.
With your support, we can make that happen!
