Goal | The students will demonstrate how to handle money by discussing financial literacy concepts. The students will demonstrate base-10 number concepts and practice math problems to reinforce and deepen their understanding of number sense. |
Description | This project teaches financial literacy concepts to second grade students by reading and discussing books with topics involving economics. Students will learn about money with topics such as earning, saving, spending, borrowing, and comparison shopping. Students struggling with place value and number sense will receive small math interventions group instruction. The double ten frame demonstration board will be used by the teacher and students to provide a deeper understanding of math concepts through modelling and practice. The demonstration ten frame board will help me demonstrate to my students how to build, add and subtract numbers to 20. Students can then demonstrate their understanding of the math skills by independently solving problems using the ten frame board. Florida Standards addressed: MACC.2.OA.2.2-Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies.SS.2.E.1.1-Recognize that people make choices because of limited resources. SS.2.E.1.4-Explain the personal benefits and costs involved in saving and spending. |
