Goal | To use our school hydroponic garden to supply our cafeteria with fresh organic greens to make salads for student and staff lunches |
Description | With the recent donation of two hydroponic growing towers, we now have a total of 4 towers. In order to use these towers, we will need a pop up greenhouse large enough to accommodate all four of them. With four working towers, we can consistently grow enough organic greens to supply the cafeteria with all they need to make salads to serve to the whole student body and our staff. With the exception of the greenhouse, we have all the necessary equipment to implement this program. |
Benefits | Not only will the students and staff benefit from having fresh organic greens for lunch on a regular basis, they will get first hand experience on how the garden to table process works. The students will be involved in all aspects of the growing/harvesting process. They will learn the difference between plants that grow in the soil and those grown in the tower with no soil. They will also learn the health and economic benefits of growing their own food. This project will also save our cafeteria money since they will not have to purchase the greens for their salads. |
