Goal | The Stuart Middle School Literacy Committee focuses on improving and sharpening the skills of our students in relation to reading and writing. One of our goals is to expose students to a familiar author, successful in the craft of storytelling. It is our aim that, with this experience, our students will make a lasting connection with books. They will see success. They will be inspired. |
Description | We have scheduled Gordon Korman, author of over eighty books, to visit our school and give a one-hour talk to our students. He is a highly regarded writer having received numerous awards including those from the American Library Association and the Pacific Northwest Library Association. Mr. Korman will address our students and talk about the inner workings of being an author. Students will enjoy a question and answer period as well. (The Literacy Committee has already raised most of the money for the author's fee. We just need a little more to make this happen.) |
Benefits | Research shows that after an author visit, books fly off library shelves. A real live author motivates students. Author visits inspire. In order for students to become better writers, they need to be prolific readers. In order to be good readers, students need to write, write, write. It is this reciprocal relationship that an author visit encourages. |
