Goal | To participate in a professional development experience in order to deepen my knowledge and understanding of the culture and history of Germany, Switzerland, and Italy, and to implement new strategies in the classroom. |
Description | The Education First Tour sends teachers and students to different parts of the world to fully immerse them in cultural and historical experiences. This is a personalized tour, with an expert in history leading a group of students and teachers around Germany, Switzerland, and Italy, and assisting with building lessons for the tour as well as the classroom. The tour begins in Rothenburg, Germany with the exploration of Neuschwanstein Castle. We will then travel to Munich and observe government in action at the Munich Town Hall. We will also have an historical lecture at the Olympic Stadium. Finally, we will end our excursion in Germany with a tour and lesson at Dachau Concentration Camp. From there, we will explore architecture and history at St. Mark's Square and Grand Canal in Venice. Finally, the tour ends at Lucerne, Switzerland. There we will learn about the role the Swiss played in the French Revolution as well as the architecture and history of the Lake Lucerne region. |
Benefits | Traveling with former students, I am already building lessons to ignite a passion for history and encourage the students to extend their research skills. I will use this experience to bring information back to the classroom in order to process information, develop research skills, and learn new strategies to inspire my students to achieve success in history. I am going to be working on the AP Capstone program and having this experience will create more learning opportunities, and will help me create better lessons and strategies to utilize in my classroom. |
