Goal | This project is for individual art kits for every student enrolled in studio art courses at Martin County High School. The visual arts program serves approximately 170-180 studio art students in the traditional art setting each year. The program is known for its creative endeavors both inside the classroom and in the community. |
Description | With new guidelines for teaching studio art, students will not be sharing art materials this year. In the past, students were able to share tools, equipment, and art materials that were stored in the classroom. In order to keep students and staff safe while adhering to district-wide visual art guidelines for instruction, each student will need to have their own art kit. The art kit will be a set of basic items for the introductory level art students. Additional materials for the advanced art students will be included in kits for students taking upper level courses (Studio 2, Studio 3 Honors, AP, and AICE). 120 students take introductory level studio art each year. The basic art kit includes sketchbook, pencils, pencil sharpener, eraser, sharpies, watercolor with brush, glue, and colored pencil. 50 students will be taking an advanced level art course. The advanced art kit includes acrylic set, brushes, mixed media pad, graphite stick, sketchbook, pencils, eraser, and glue. |
Benefits | Individual student art kits will provide materials for Martin County High School visual art students and ensure they have everything for either remote learning at home or in-person learning. Giving all students access to the same materials will take the unnecessary burden off students, parents, and teachers during this challenging back-to-school season. With the cost of these basic art materials, regular instruction can take place. |
