Goal | To host engaging book tasting events three times a year that spark student interest in reading by creating a fun, café-style atmosphere with themed decorations and interactive activities from Teachers Pay Teachers. |
Description | To build excitement around reading and encourage students to explore new genres and authors, I plan to host Book Tasting events in my 3rd grade classroom three times a year—once in the fall, winter, and spring. These events transform our room into a cozy café where students “sample” books at different stations and record their thoughts using engaging activities. To bring this vision to life, I’m requesting: Themed decorations (tablecloths, signs, menus, café props) to create a book café atmosphere A Book Tasting activity with response sheets, genre menus, and extension ideas Basic supplies to support the event (place settings, bookmarks, etc.) These book tastings will help students broaden their reading interests, discover new favorites, and see reading as an exciting adventure—not just an assignment. |
Benefits | Increased Motivation to Read: Themed events make reading feel fun, fresh, and inviting. Genre Exploration: Students get exposed to a wide range of books they may not choose on their own. Improved Reading Stamina: Sampling multiple texts helps build curiosity and reading endurance. Critical Thinking: Students reflect on book elements like plot, characters, and genre in a meaningful way. Community Building: Book tastings create shared reading experiences that promote conversation and excitement around books. |
