| Goal | My goal is to provide every student in my first-grade classroom with the support they need to become confident, successful readers. Because I teach a diverse group of learners, including English Language Learners (ELLs) and Exceptional Student Education (ESE) students, I strive to provide multiple ways for students to access foundational reading skills. The Secret Stories program will serve as an additional layer of support alongside our current curriculum, helping students make meaningful connections between letters and sounds. |
| Description | The Secret Stories program uses engaging, memorable stories to explain why English spelling and phonics patterns work the way they do. These multisensory lessons help students retain difficult phonics concepts and apply them while reading and writing. Rather than replacing our district curriculum, Secret Stories enhances it by providing students with another way to understand and remember essential literacy skills. This resource is especially valuable for students who need repeated exposure and explicit instruction to master foundational reading concepts. |
| Benefits | Secret Stories will benefit every student in my classroom while providing targeted support for my ELL and ESE learners. By making phonics patterns easier to understand and remember, students will build confidence, improve decoding and spelling skills, and become more independent readers and writers. As students experience success, they will be more engaged during literacy instruction and better equipped to meet grade-level expectations. This resource will help create a classroom where every child has the opportunity to thrive and develop a lifelong love of reading. |
