The goal of this project is to create an immersive, supportive community culture within our fifth-grade classroom across all academic subjects while turning a core math standard—5th-grade decimal place value—into an active, daily hands-on application. By tying our classroom behavior management and cross-curricular milestones directly to a physical base-ten token economy, students will naturally master adding, subtracting, and regrouping decimals through a high-stakes, highly engaging house system.

Implementing this classroom house system and token economy will provide several direct benefits to my 5th-grade students: Concrete Math Mastery: It transforms an abstract math standard—5th-grade decimal place value—into a physical, tangible experience. Students will build deep conceptual fluency by adding, subtracting, and regrouping decimal values during every transaction. All-Day Behavioral Motivation: Because students can earn charms across all subjects for citizenship, effort, and responsibility, it provides continuous positive reinforcement that keeps engagement high from morning arrival until dismissal.Classroom Community & Belonging: The house system encourages teamwork, peer encouragement, and a supportive classroom culture where students celebrate each other's academic and personal achievements. Real-World Financial Literacy: By acting as consumers and bankers during our high-stakes "Shopping Day," students learn the value of saving, budgeting, and calculating totals in a structured, real-world scenario.
