Goal

We are seeking financial assistance to support the supplies necessary to create our Sensory Experience. The items will include a variety that supports and enhances the student through touch, sound, smell, sight, vestibular and proprioceptive inputs. It will provide staff with an alternative classroom locale, permitting the student of all abilities to unplug from the grind and plug into nature. Some items will include wind chimes and spinners, bird feeders and baths, sensory bins, children's garden tools, outdoor blankets and cushions, rain sticks and drum, outdoor paint to create hopscotch and tic tac toe, and a parachute game. If you would like to see a complete listing of the items I have them readily available and am glad to email them to you.

Description

Last year interested staff and students formed a Garden Committee to work the grounds, seek community help, and plan for a future vegetable garden, food forest, and sensory experience for all students at our school. Through much effort, we are ready to formalize the area, plant our trees, ready or garden beds, add our Sensory Experience items, and be one with nature. As an alternate school site, we do not benefit from the financial support of parent participation, sports generated income, club engagement, and extracurricular funding.

Benefits

The student body of WLC includes interim and permanent placement youth of all grades, K-age 21. Approximately half of our population consists of ESE students with special needs and unique abilities. In an effort to provide a unified area and activity that all students can benefit from and engage in, we are creating The Willoughby Sensory Garden, which will consist of Sensory, Edible, and Wildlife components. A monetary gift to support the Sensory aspects of this endeavor will enhance the educational experience and emotional expression M<pomof all staff and students alike.
