| Goal | My goal is to create a calm, inviting learning environment for my ESE students by adding flexible classroom lighting that reduces distractions, supports sensory needs, and helps students feel comfortable, focused, and ready to learn. A welcoming atmosphere will encourage student engagement, increase confidence, and promote academic success during small-group and individualized instruction. |
| Description | The fluorescent lights in our classroom can often feel harsh and overwhelming for students, especially those with sensory sensitivities. While I am able to dim the overhead lights, doing so does not always provide adequate lighting for reading, writing, and other academic tasks. This can create a learning environment that is either too bright and distracting or too dim for students to comfortably engage in instruction. This project will provide soft, supplemental lighting that creates a bright, welcoming, and cozy atmosphere while still supporting the visual demands of learning. By adding classroom lighting options, students will be able to work in a space that feels more comfortable and inviting. A calm environment can help reduce distractions, support focus, and meet the diverse sensory needs of my ESE students. When students feel comfortable in their learning environment, they are more likely to participate in lessons, engage with their peers, and take academic risks. Creating a warm and inviting classroom space will help foster confidence, increase student engagement, and encourage active participation during small-group instruction, independent work, and literacy activities. These lighting additions will transform our classroom into a space where students feel excited to learn and empowered to succeed. |
