| Goal | The goal of this project is to increase students' knowledge of Florida's native bird species while developing observation, scientific inquiry, and nature journaling skills. |
| Description | Students will use Florida bird identification guides and native bird plush models to learn to recognize local bird species, study their characteristics and habitats, and record their observations through nature journals. Throughout the school year, students will regularly participate in outdoor nature journaling activities around the school campus, using the field guides to identify and document birds they observe in their natural environment. This project will benefit students' kindergarten through 3rd grade. |
| Benefits | This project will provide students with meaningful, hands-on experiences that connect science learning to the natural world around them. By using Florida native bird guides and bird models, students will develop observation, identification, and scientific inquiry skills while learning about local ecosystems and biodiversity. Nature journaling encourages students to slow down, observe carefully, ask questions, and record evidence, which are important practices used by real scientists. As students regularly observe birds and other wildlife on the school campus, they will strengthen critical thinking, attention to detail, and data collection skills while building a deeper understanding of Florida's native species. |
