School Hidden Oaks Middle School (HOMS)
Grade 6-8
Subject Science
Goal

The goal of this project is to provide my 6th and 7th grade science student with an Interactive Science Notebook that promotes active learning, organization, and critical thinking. Students will use their notebooks to record observations, analyze data, create models, complete hands-on activities, and reflect on their learning throughout the school year. By engaging with science concepts through writing, drawing, diagramming, and inquiry-based activities, students will develop a deeper understanding of the Florida middle school science standards while strengthening their scientific reasoning, communication, and problem-solving skills. Interactive Science Notebooks will serve as a personalized learning tool that encourages creativity, reinforces classroom instruction, and provides students with a meaningful resource to support academic success and long-term knowledge retention.

Description

Interactive Science Notebooks provide students with an engaging, hands-on way to organize learning, record scientific thinking, and deepen their understanding of science through inquiry, reflection, and creativity.

Benefits

By choosing the Interactive Notebooking project, you will provide my 6th and 7th grade science students with a meaningful way to actively engage in learning while developing essential science and literacy skills. By funding this project, everyone of my students will receive their own Interactive Science Notebook, ensuring all learners have an organized, personal resource to use throughout the school year. Students will organize notes, record observations, analyze data, create diagrams, and reflect on their learning in one place that they can reference as concepts build over time. INBs encourage critical thinking, creativity, and scientific communication by allowing students to actively interact with scientific concepts rather than simply memorize them. They also support diverse learning styles through a combination of writing, drawing, graphic organizers, and hands-on activities. By regularly using their notebooks, students will strengthen organizational skills, improve retention of key science concepts, increase confidence during class discussions and assessments, and develop a deeper understanding of the Florida middle school science standards through inquiry-based learning.
